We are committed to making 100% of our packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
Our roadmap to 2025
As part of our commitment, we are a member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, taking part in the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, which reflects our ambition to play an active role in eliminating problematic and unnecessary plastic packaging through redesign and innovation.
Our roadmap focuses on:
Existing packaging development and redesign
We are evolving our current packaging to ensure recyclability and compostability through alternative materials and packaging redesign.
R&D and Open Innovation
We are leveraging new technologies, accelerating implementation through global partnerships and exploring next generation compostable packaging materials.
Partnering with recyclers and national waste management systems
We are developing solutions for hard-to-recycle materials and exploring new business models: promoting packaging reuse in a closed-loop.
Supporting our consumers
We are committed to helping to educate our consumers for a successful transition to a circular economy and actions to eliminate waste offering clear end of life information.
WHY DO WE NEED PACKAGING?
Packaging plays a vital role in protecting and preserving products for consumers.
- Our packaging is carefully designed to maintain the freshness and quality of our products.
- Our packaging acts as a protective barrier.
- Our packaging helps our consumers to recognise our products on shelf.
- Our packaging helps provide information such as portion size to help consumers to make informed choices so they can enjoy their favourite treats as part of a balanced and varied diet.
Consumer safety and product quality are at the heart of our decision making when we design our packaging. As part of our commitment to offering the highest-quality food, we are committed to increasing the circularity of our packaging.
In the development and planning of our packaging, we adopt what we define as the “5R Strategy”, aimed at achieving the very best in terms of quality and freshness, while minimising the quantity of waste produced. The 5Rs are the principles identified by Ferrero as fundamental, which guide the design of our packaging with a view to Ecodesign.
